I immigrated to the US 19 years ago.
My family lived in a 750 sq ft rented apartment in India.
They were supportive and wanted the best for me…
But also expected me to achieve and succeed abroad.
Many of our eggs were in my basket.
Then spent the next decade proving I deserved the positions at globally recognized companies that hired me.
My visa did not make it in the lottery one year, so I worked even harder to find a legal way to stay.
I was available to travel whenever needed — and ended up being constantly on the road.
Although it looks like my education and work experience are impressive, it wasn’t easy to find my way as a South Asian woman in sales/customer success/strategy settings those years ago. I did not fit into the “techie” bracket either.
The expectations of my family and the pressure to achieve were the driving force behind so much of my hard work, fast career growth, and burnout...
Which ultimately led me to embark on a profound journey of self-discovery.
Today, I’m grateful that I found the intersection of my passions and purpose and now run my own international business and the freedom to live and work globally.
I started my career, had many life-changing opportunities, and now get to experience a version of my ambition that contains my TRUE authenticity.
All thanks to the bold moves I trusted myself to make 23 years ago.
I can celebrate how far I’ve come and also never forget my humble beginnings.
Never take for granted where you began.
